Chip Gaylor received his B.A. from Asbury University in 1986, his J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law in 1989, and his Master of Laws in Estate Planning (LL.M.) from the University of Miami School of Law in 1990. Chip is a member of the Florida Bar Association and the Sarasota County Bar Association, where he served as President in 2017-2018. He is a member of the Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section of both bar associations, and was a Past Chair of the local bar section. Chip is also a member of the Venice Estate Planning Council.
Chip served on the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Inc., and was Board Chair from 1995 to 1997. Currently, Muirhead, Gaylor, Steves & Waskom, P.A. serves as general counsel to the Foundation. He joined the New College Library Association Board in 1998 and was elected President for two terms in 2000. In 2003 Chip was elected to the Board of the New College Foundation, where he chaired the Development Committee. He is an adjunct professor at Manatee Community College.
From 2002 to 2006, Chip served on the Board of SCOPE (Sarasota County Openly Plans for Excellence). In 1999 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Atlanta-based Southeastern Council of Foundations, and served two years as Board Chair. Additionally, Chip has served on the boards of the Sarasota County Arts Council; the Venice chapter of the American Center Society, the Laurel Civic Association, and the Community AIDS Network.
Chip is a native of Sarasota County and, in his spare time, enjoys traveling, fishing, scuba diving, and tennis. He is a member of the Sarasota Yacht Club, and served on the Board of Directors and Governance Committee.
Beth Waskom received her B.A. from the University of Florida in 1988 and her J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1991. Beth is a member of the Florida Bar Association and the Sarasota County Bar Association, and is a member of the Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section of both bar associations. She is the Past President of the South County Division of the Sarasota County Bar Association and is a member of the Venice Estate Planning Council.
Beth is an honorary trustee on the Mote Marine Laboratory Board, where she recently celebrated 25 years as an active volunteer. She is a Past President of Mote’s Advisory Council and a member of the Mote Marine Laboratory Oceanic Evening Gala committee. Beth also serves on the Designing Women’s board as its Estate and Trust Adviser. She has been member of the Junior League of Sarasota and is an executive board member of the Ringling Museum’s UnGala Gala.
In addition to professional and philanthropic pursuits, Beth is an in-demand public speaker, and regularly presents informative lectures to groups in the Sarasota County community regarding probate, estate planning, and charitable giving.
A native of Connecticut, Beth grew up in Gainesville, Florida. In her spare time, she loves to travel with her family.
Beth is an original member of the prestigious Michelob Ultra New York Marathon Team, and is in the process of competing in every major marathon around the world.
David A. Steves was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati and the Salmon P. Chase School of Law, which originated in Cincinnati but is now part of the Northern Kentucky University. He focuses his practice in Wills, Trusts, Estate Taxes and Estate Planning, and represents charitable organizations.
David is admitted to both the Ohio Bar and the Florida Bar, where he is a member of its Tax and Estate Planning section. He is a member of the Sarasota County Bar Association, as well as the American Bar Association, and serves in its Real Property, Probate and Trust Law section. He is a member of the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council and the Southwest Florida Planned Giving Council.
David has served as a Board Member and Chair of a United Way agency and the Sarasota Orchestra, where he currently serves as the Board Chair. His association with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Inc. started in the early 1980s and he served as a member of its board beginning in 1985. David served as the Chairman of that Board from 1992 through 1994, and was elected to its Emeritus Board. He now serves as its general counsel with law partner Chip Gaylor. David has served on the Outreach Committee of the Washington, D.C.-based Council on Foundations.
David is a popular speaker regarding his areas of expertise: estate and tax saving strategies.
